Nintendo 64 launched in the UK 20 years ago today, on March 1 1997. This was actually a Saturday, and I was there at the now closed Comet in Crawley.
The launch came months after the September 1996 and November 1996 launches in Japan and North America, respectively. The wait was a painful one, but we were rewarded with a launch line-up which included three – yes three – games: Super Mario 64, Pilotwings 64 and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.
My brother and I bought all three games. It was quite the time to be alive thanks to the true generational leap in 3D gaming.
