Hello Games has released the full patch notes for update 1.3 of No Man’s Sky today, detailing exactly what is being added to the game. First off, a storyline is now being implemented with a 30-hour campaign with branching narrative. There are also procedurally-generated missions and a form of multiplayer called Joint Exploration, where other players are represented as floating orbs.
It’d been previously rumoured that there’d be ‘joint exploration’ coming to the game naturally this led to the assumption that multiplayer would be fully-incorporated into the No Man’s Sky experience. Time to temper those flames of hope, however, as what Joint Exploration means is something slightly different. Represented as floating orbs, up to 16 players will be able to see and communicate with one another, before exploring the universe together.
Hello Games wrote, ‘While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky’. So at least this is something it’s working towards. Players will need to be in close distance of one another for this to work, but with the addition of portals meeting up with friends online will now be a real possibility.
