Playtonic Games has released the first major update for its 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee, arriving on consoles a month after it came out on PC. This new update fixes many of the issues that have plagued it since launch, but it was unable to fix one issue where a trophy wasn’t awarded for completing an objective on PS4 due to ‘platform policy’.
The update fixes long-standing issues such as the option to reduce those annoying ‘gibberish’ conversations, the ability to skip cutscenes and also improves the game’s performance. The notoriously awful camera has been amended with a new manual camera that adds minimal assist and enhances viewing distance. The camera fix was implemented as a result of feedback from PC players following the release of the update.
Playtonic also spoke about the Nintendo Switch port saying that, ‘We’re aware of the huge demand for more news on this and appreciate your patience as we work out the final issues. As soon as we’re 100% confident with this version and everything is approved, we will make sure you’re first to know the release date!’. The developer clearly wants to ensure the Switch version releases in a smoother state than the initial launch.
